Juventus are aiming to sign a goalkeeper with the ability to play a number of positions in the game, but could they get an assist from their captain?
It’s been a tough season for the Italian club, but after last week’s win over Bologna, it’s clear that they’re the only side to have won at home this season.
Their recent form has also been good, with their goal difference being the best in Serie A this season and they are currently in the race for the Scudetto.
However, if they are to achieve their objectives, then they will need to sign another goalkeeper, who is the best option.
According to the La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juve are keen on signing former Inter Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, with a loan deal to be agreed.
The former Chelsea goalkeeper is currently in Italy and has been linked with a move to the Serie A giants.
Buffon made 39 appearances for Inter in the 2012-13 season and also spent time at Juventus, where he won the Champions League in 2012-2013.
Burgos have already confirmed that they have made an approach for Buffon and have agreed terms with the player’s representatives.
They are also keen on adding a midfielder to their ranks and are currently negotiating a deal for former Liverpool striker Philippe Coutinho.
Juventus also have an offer for Lazio goalkeeper Gianluca Pizzaro and a deal in the works for Napoli goalkeeper Marco Verratti.
The Italians have been the only Serie A side to concede more goals than they’ve scored this season, and are aiming for more victories, but their form has dipped in recent weeks, with Juventus currently in second place.
They lost 2-1 at Fiorentina on Sunday, meaning they have scored only once in their last seven matches.
Despite that, it is still clear that Juve have a chance of securing the Scuda, and it’s a pity that their goalkeeper has been so disappointing this season; he is one of the best goalkeepers in Serie L, with Inter and Lazio also boasting quality.
For Juventus, the goalkeeping situation is crucial, as they have conceded the third-most goals in the league this season (18) and only a few of those have come from outside of the penalty area.
If Buffon can’t make it in the Italy squad, they’ll have to bring in a new goalkeeper, with Buffon being the only one capable of doing so.
